Our Chorus

Canadian Showtime Chorus® is a competitive singing group for women, specializing in a capella four-part harmony. Formed in 1982 and a chartered member of Sweet Adelines International since 1984, this 100+-member chorus ranks in the top 20 of more than 600 choruses worldwide. [thechorus-1.jpg]
Under the experienced direction of Master Director and Sweet Adelines International Music Faculty member Sandra Nason, the Chorus is known for its dynamic performances of a wide range of musical styles, including Contemporary, Gospel, Broadway, Celtic and Jazz, as well as traditional barbershop. But it's not just about the music - it's theatre as well: our performances combine song and script to tell the stories of Canadian women's lives.
[thechorus-2.jpg] In April 2007, at the Lake Ontario Region 16 Competition held in Syracuse, New York, Canadian Showtime was proud to achieve "A-level" placement for the first time. Region 16 is the largest Region in Sweet Adelines International, made up of over 30 choruses from New York State and Ontario. Canadian Showtime first qualified for international competition in 2002, and at our third appearance at International Competition, in October, 2006 in Las Vegas, we were delighted to be placed in the Top 20 in the world.
Education is a particular chorus priority. Members are professionally trained in proper singing technique, choreography, costuming, and the art of staging a performance. Part of that training comes from qualified, internationally-recognized coaches whose combined expertise helps the Chorus achieve an improved level of performance with each competition and public performance.

Canadian Showtime Chorus has also performed at a number of major events in the community. In April 2007, Canadian Showtime was honoured to perform for the Royal Netherlands Embassy to celebrate their national holiday, Queen's Day, by singing the Dutch national anthem (in Dutch), "O Canada", and some of our favourite songs. We have performed at the RCMP Sunset Ceremony & Musical Ride, the annual "Light Up the Grace" ceremony, and for a variety of other organizations, such as the Kinsmen Club and the Catholic Diocese of Ottawa, and in such venues as the Great Hall of the National Gallery and the National Arts Centre.
